Tips to increase your driving score
Minimize phone use
Keep your phone out of reach. Consider placing your phone somewhere that prevents you from easily interacting with it while driving.
Use hands-free features. Connecting your phone with your vehicle’s built-in functions lets you use voice commands to help you focus on the road. Road-friendly apps like Android Auto or Apple CarPlay can also help you drive more safely.
Mount your phone at eye level. If you need to use your phone’s GPS for navigation, consider a dashboard mount so your phone remains visible while driving.
Reduce hard braking
Drive defensively. Stay alert and watch other drivers so you can react to hazards early and avoid slamming on the brakes.
Follow the 3-second rule. When the car in front of you passes a sign, count the seconds before your vehicle reaches that same sign. Maintain a three-second gap in good driving conditions and increase the gap when road conditions are poor.
Give yourself extra time. Leave early so you don't have to rush. Speeding and hard braking happen more frequently when you're late.
Reduce speeding
Use cruise control. When on an open highway without traffic, avoid speeding by setting your cruise control.
Practice leaving early. Check your estimated trip duration and set an alarm to ensure you have enough time to travel to your destination without speeding.
Reduce stress. Stress can lead to speeding. Take deep breaths and stay calm while driving.
Vehicle maintenance tips
Maintain your vehicle's brakes. Check your brakes regularly because they're crucial for stopping smoothly and safely.
Regularly check your vehicle's tires. Ensure they are inflated to the manufacturer's specifications and maintain adequate tread to help increase traction and control, especially in bad weather.
Inspect your vehicle's wipers. Replace worn-out wiper blades to ensure clear visibility during rain or snow.
Keep your vehicle's lights working. Maintain your headlights, brake lights, and turn signals to ensure visibility and communication with other drivers.

*DriveMyWay plans & discounts may vary by state. Rate will vary based on driving behavior. Unsafe driving behaviors may increase your rate. Product eligibility will vary by state, vehicle type, policy form and company underwriting the auto policy. Some restrictions may apply. The DriveMyWay rate factor applies only to these coverages, which are typical for most auto policies: bodily injury liability, property damage liability, collision and comprehensive, medical expense and personal injury protection. Additionally, the rate factor does not apply to fixed fees that are part of the policy. To refresh your understanding of coverages, visit the Car Insurance Coverage page. Customer driving data from the DriveMyWay & KnowYourDrive programs were used to inform rate structure. If you choose to unenroll anytime after the trial period ends, we’ll use your latest program score when calculating your rate at future renewals.
